Happy Holidays, The first half is Over

The first half of the season is now officially over. We ended it just a fraction over .500. Not to bad but we can do better in the 2nd half. This week we won 3-2 and for a first so far this year no matches were decided by the clock.

On Court 1 Adam and Evan cruised to an easy 6-1,6-2 win. 2nd position saw Dan and Bob lose in straights(6-3,6-4). They never got into sync, and their opponents kept it that way making every net cord shot in the book.

Two more wins came from positions 3 and 4. Todd and Andy survived a loose first set.(4-6,6-3,6-2) Paul and Tony then had a streaky win(6-1,1-6,6-1). Over on 5 Don and Mike, came up a little short in the third.(7-6,2-6,6-0) ;-)

We start our playoff push on January 6th at Northeast. We lost to them in week one and need to deliver a little payback in the New Year. So rest up and get ready to kick some @$$ in the 2nd half, and have a great Holiday Season.

.500 Again!

Wow what a road trip. Not only did I have no luck fielding a full team, We lost. Ok technically we split 2-2 but with our first Default of the Year we Lost. It was a long drive but at least the Lunch afterwards was good. Ok on to the wrap up!

In First position a Sleepy Todd and Andy won a match that started at 9:30am.(6-4,6-4) It shouldn't have been as close as the score looks.

Over on two, Dan and Paul had a great match, Losing by only a game due to time.(6-7,6-3,2-3)(ed: their opponents getting water every other game didn't help) This was easily the best match of the day with great volleys and serving all around. With it coming down to the last couple of points, it could of went either way.

On Three, Don and Tony(hurt shoulder) Pulled out a great win. Don made just some incredible volleys off of overheads and Tony gave em the "touch shots of death" at the net to win.(6-7,6-0,6-4)

Over on 4, Mike and Ken(ed: playing in his 1st match) ran into a crafty Veteran and his apprentice. Playing on a very slick and badly lit court. They ended up losing 6-4,6-2. On 5 we Lost by default, We should have been able to field a 5 team but I dropped the ball a bit.

Next week is our last match of the Year!! And it gives us a Chance to close out the First Half Above 500%. We Play against my old Club Newburyport. We all know what that means. Revenge. ;-)

Cedardale 3 Willows 0

What a great Match we just had. It's always nice to beat the Willows. But to beat their best team 4-1, Come on! This gives us a 3-0 record against the Willows for the first half of the season. I've said it before and I'll say it again we are the Red Sox and the Willows are the Yankees, and I don't like the Yankees.

Ok on court 1, Adam and Evan(to good for league?) ;-) Playing against one of our favorites. Found the time to give themselves a Win in a tight match(7-6,6-6).
Over on 2. Bob and Dan Played a great match against a very tough team to Pull out the Win by one game(5-7,6-4,3-2). This match had some just incredible points at the net.

On 3 Todd and Andy played just ok enough to win(7-6,6-3). Todd couldn't serve and Andy couldn't return but each pulled it together for the big points to get the win.
Court 4 saw the hardest hitting of any match as Paul and Chad took cover behind the baseline to return as many missiles as possible. The willows snuck one of their #1 teams over to court four for the win. but just barely as Paul and Chad were ready to take it as time ran out.(3-6,6-2,4-4)

On 5 Don and Mike Played a great match winning in straight sets(7-6,6-4). This was a good win to get from the anchor team as it pushed us up over .500 again and puts us in a good position for our last two matches of the first half.

Yeah that's what I do?

I know none of us are him. But check out the Balance and how he keeps his head still and focused on the contact point. He sees where the ball will go in his minds eye and literally watches the ball get flattened on his racket.
Just Awesome, now everyone copy that!

Ouch!

Ok this week hurt. It's a good thing we have two weeks off to recoup. Last week we broke our home losing streak and this week we broke our road win streak. We are back under 500 again. It's a good thing we get a couple of weeks off to regroup and recoup.

Our lone victory this week was in third position where Tony and Chad(4-6,6-2,4-4) managed the clock along with a strong start in the third set to secure a 2 game victory.

On courts 1 and 2 Adam and Evan(7-5,6-4) and Todd and Paul(6-3,7-5). Both lost in straights with only 1 break per set being the difference. Good tennis though.
Court 4 saw Mickey and Don(6-2,6-2) who played pretty well, just run into the wrong team this week. Over on 5 Mike and Gary(3-6,6-3,6-1) started strong winning the first set but then ran into some strong tennis in losing the next two.

This is the team to beat! Remember we play them again at home on 3-10-07. We'll be more ready, and we won't have to deal with slick courts.

Beat em Again

Ok, sorry for the late update. Tennis, Tires, and Work have kept me away from posting Saturdays matches. Well better late than never, specially when we Win!!

We pulled out a tough win 3-2 against the Better Willows team. It was kind of funny though because most of their players looked an awful lot like the same guys we saw last week. I lost the score sheet so no scores this week.(ed: idiot)

Ok in First Adam and Evan redeemed themselves this week with a blowout in one. Second position saw Bob and Dan win an exciting and tight 3 set match. In third Todd and Andy cruised to a straight setter. We didn't have much luck in the 4 & 5 spots. Mickey and Tony lost a tight 2 setter and Don and Paul went cold at the wrong time in the 3rd set of their match. Not a bad week!

Next week( 4 days) we are away in Winchester bldg2. That means we get to keep the road win streak alive.

.500

The first 1/4 of the season is over. So far no defaults and a .500 record. Not to shabby. This week we went over to the Willows and posted a 4-1 win.

The only loss was in position one where Adam and Evan lost the match on a deuce point.(4-6,6-4,3-2) If only they had more time. On court two Dan and Bob beat former Cedardale player Igor(7-5,6-4) in what was a great match with some clutch returning by Bob and strong serving by Dan.
Todd and Andy won in 3rd(6-3,7-5) fighting off their usual 2nd set let down.

In 4th Tony and Mickey decided to keep the title of Drama Queens by winning by one game(4-6,7-6,4-2). This marks the 4th time out of 6 that they have either won or lost by one game. And over on 5, Don and Paul won easily 6-0,6-4 with some late opponents donating some early games.

Next week we play one of the strongest Willows teams at home. It's always nice to beat the Willows

Home Streak Intact

Wow what a frustrating week. In a bid to end our home loss streak, we failed. Positions 1 & 4 came through with the victories but the rest of the positions came up a little short.

In what was probably the easiest match of the weekend, Dan and Adam cruised to a 6-4,6-4 win in first position, Then Paul and Don(4th) also won a straight set match 6-3,7-5. From there it went south. Todd and Andy(2nd) coughed up a frustrating 3-6,6-4,6-3 loss. Followed by yet two more one game defeats. For Mickey and Tony(their 3rd of the year) 5-7,6-4,4-3 . And over on 5 our Rehab starters, Mark and Chad also lost 3-6,6-3,4-3.

So luckily we have an away match next week. At my Favorite place..The Willows so let's keep our away win streak going!

10/08/2006

Big Guns!

Ok, sorry for the late update. We had a great week. We brought in the big guns and came away with a team win. We won 3-2 this week with positions 1,2, and 4 winning. In first Dan and Adam played a spectacular match against some tough competition, winning a tough 3rd set to secure the win in one(3-6,6-3,7-5)
In second position Todd and Evan aka the "Shorties" won with a (6-4,1-6,6-1) not as close as the score looked.
Third position saw the first loss of the year for the team of Paul and Don. The first set really did them in. Although they would've won if they had not run out of time.(6-1,6-3,3-4)
In fourth, Tony and Mickey came up with the match to clinch the win. Finally getting their groove back on, and winning (6-4,7-5).
In Fifth position the "Newbies" Neil and Gary Lost a competitive and high quality match(6-4,6-2). Winchester brown came at us with a strong team, alot of the players they had playing in 1 through 5 I've played before in position #1. And we came away with a victory, this is good news for the rest of the season. Great Win and Great playing everyone. See you in two weeks to start our win streak!!

9/30/2006

So Close.

Well we almost got our 2nd win of the season. There were alot of new matchups this week, and they almost paid off. The swing match of the week was in 3rd position where Tony and Mickey needing a couple more minutes lost by just one game( 6-2,5-7,4-5). In first position Bob and Dan owned the net and cruised to a (6-2,6-4) win. On court 2 Todd and Paul ran outta time before they were able to close it out and won by games (7-5,3-6,5-3). In 4th position Don and Gary, another new matchup lost a close one (6-4,7-5). And over on court 5, Mike and Neil(yet another new matchup)felt the time pressure after splitting sets and then getting down a couple of games in the 3rd to lose (6-4,4-6,6-0).

All in all not a bad week considering the new matchups and lack of matches for some of the new guys. Player of the Week goes to Bob. Yea Bob. ;-) Now it's off to Winchester next week to take on their 2nd team. Let's keep the road win streak going!!

9/23/2006

First Win! 3-2

Ok we got our first team win of the Year! Dan and Todd posted a win with a flukey first set(0-6 ,6-1, 6-3). While Don and Paul dominated with an easy win(6-1, 6-2). Mike and Dean in 5, posted the "no show Double Bagle"!!(home team default) for the win. Some tough sets on courts 2 and 3. Mickey and Tony lost a close match (7-6,7-5). Bob playing with Mark(only his second time playing in 6 months) lost a frustrating match (6-3,6-1).

Not to bad for our 2nd match. Next week is another home match against one of the Winchester teams. This year they have droped down from 3 teams to 2 teams. That means they should have a strong team next week, which means good tennis.

9/16/2006

We even owe more!

Ok so the Payback in week one was more of another withdrawl. With our team owing them even more in our next match.
There was some good news in our 1-4 loss though. Dean and Paul won, Bob kept his eye on the ball and Mike will now read his e-mails more closely. ;-)
The Bad news is that I found out that I might be to heavy for Adam to carry, Bob got hit in the Eye with the ball, hope he's alright, And Mike was late.

Next weeks match is AWAY! (Mike) At Bass River. They have a good team, So it should be some good tennis. Any Idea where we should eat lunch afterwards?

9/12/2006

First Match = PAYBACK!

We get to start the season off right. A home match against Northeast. I wish all matches were at home. Not only would it be cheaper it would be closer. Plus when we have a home match, it means that one of the womens teams will provide food for us when we get done, Right??

Now I don't want to put any pressure on anyone. But some of you might remember that the team we are playing in week one, is the same team that beat us in the 4.0 league twice. Not only that but they also took second place from us by two points also. So this Saturday is Payback time.

No excuses just don't lose.*
